Anyone applying for a seat in the district council or in the city council must meet the criteria of eligibility. This must be proven when submitting the nominations.
Candidates who stand for election to the district council of a district or to the city council of an independent city must prove that they are eligible when submitting the election proposal. The following criteria must be met:
- is a German within the meaning of Article 116 paragraph 1 of the Basic Law or a citizen of another Member State of the European Union,
- has reached the age of 18,
- has been permanently resident or habitually resident in the electoral area for at least three months.

- Form "Certificate of eligibility" Model form Appendix 8a of the Brandenburg Municipal Election Ordinance
- is a German within the meaning of Article 116 paragraph 1 of the Basic Law or a citizen of another Member State of the European Union,
- has reached the age of 18,
- has been permanently resident or habitually resident in the electoral area for at least three months.
The applicant fills out the form "Annex 8a of the BbgKWahlV: Certificate of eligibility" and submits it to the municipal authority (residents' registration system) for confirmation.
Public announcement of the district returning officer for the submission of election proposals in accordance with § 26 BbgKWahlG. This will be published no later than the 92nd day before the election.
For election to the district council or the city council, you must be eligible and prove eligibility.
