Pflegefachberufe; Beantragung der Erlaubnis zum Führen der Berufsbezeichnung bei ausländischem Berufsabschluss

If you would like to work in Germany under the protected professional title "Pflegefachmann/-frau", "Gesundheits- und Kinderkrankenpfleger/-in" or "Altenpfleger/-in", you need a permit.

You need a license if you want to work under the protected professional title of nursing specialist in the Federal Republic of Germany.

The use of the professional title is subject to authorization, but not the professional activity itself. By protecting the professional title, the practice of the respective profession is also indirectly protected to a certain extent, as qualified healthcare professionals are generally employed for qualified healthcare work. For individual healthcare professions, the activity as such is also protected in addition to the professional title: In the field of nursing professionals, certain activities are reserved for holders of the license (so-called reserved activities) and the same applies accordingly to the use of the professional title of healthcare and children's nurse or geriatric nurse.

• The following documents are required:
  • Proof of the equivalence of your level of training or knowledge according to the German training and examination regulations applicable to the respective profession
  • on separate request of the recognition body:
    • Language certificate level GER B2
    • Certificate of good conduct
    • medical certificate

The most important requirements are that you have fully completed your vocational or university education (proof) and passed the final examination.

The costs range from EUR 40 to EUR 500 depending on the individual case.

Those interested in recognition who only have limited financial resources of their own can apply for a grant for professional recognition. In Bavaria, the State Office for Nursing (LfP) is centrally responsible for issuing the professional license. You must apply to the Landesamt für Pflege (LfP) for a professional license together with the required documents.
