Specialist veterinarians are not independent professions. The respective titles represent additional designations that are awarded to veterinarians (regulated profession) on the basis of separate specialist training. In this respect, the recognition of the foreign qualification is not a mandatory condition for taking up employment. The following designations are recognized in Hamburg:
- theoretical veterinary medicine,
- animal husbandry and animal breeding,
- food of animal origin,
- clinical veterinary medicine,
- Methodical-technical veterinary medicine,
- Ecology,
- Public Veterinary Service
Application as well as detailed proof of the relevant further training qualification, if applicable, curriculum vitae and proof of qualifications about previous professional activity - in each case with translation if possible.
complete evidence of the veterinary license or a license to practice a profession in accordance with § 11 of the Federal Veterinary Code and the corresponding evidence of qualifications or further training, as well as evidence of the type and duration of relevant professional experience - if possible together with a translation.
According to the scale of fees for the public healthcare system, the fee range is between 45 and 350 euros.
Between 3 and 24 months. The duration also depends in particular on the extent to which subsequent translations or supplementary measures are required, since the procedure may only be completed afterwards.
The recognition of a specialist veterinarian title is not a prerequisite for taking up professional activity (see above). The requirements necessary for access to the profession (veterinary profession) are based on Section 4 of the Federal Veterinary Regulations (BTÄO). You must apply to the Health and Consumer Protection Authority (V11) for recognition as a veterinarian as a restriction on access to the profession.
