Erstzulassung eines Fahrzeugs Erteilung

If you want to use a new vehicle on the road, it must be registered for the first time.
When you register, you will receive the registration papers and an assigned license plate. Once the license plates have been attached, you can drive the new vehicle on the road. You will also be required to pay taxes and insurance.

• a valid identity card or an electronic residence permit (eAT) or passport with current confirmation of registration
• a declaration of consent from all legal guardians in the case of persons who are not fully legally competent
• the registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document; if completed by the manufacturer)
• CoC paper or EEC certificate of conformity
• the electronic insurance confirmation as an eVB code (available from the car insurance company)
• an original SEPA combined mandate for the collection of vehicle tax by direct debit (form can be found under Services and Links)
  (If the tax is not to be paid by the owner himself but by a so-called willing third party, a copy of the identity card of the willing third party is required.)
• the appointment confirmation
• Purchase contract or original invoice (if registered as a brand new motorhome)

Additionally, if an authorized representative submits the application on your behalf:

• the legibly completed power of attorney in the original with the legible color copy of the principal's ID card. Note: The color copy must be marked "COPY".
• the authorized representative's ID card in the original

Companies or associations must also submit the following documents:

• a company/association certificate (e.g. commercial register extract or association register extract)

Additionally, if an authorized representative submits the application:

• the legibly completed power of attorney in the original with the legible color copy of the authorized representative's ID card
• the authorized representative's ID card in the original

• For private individuals: The registered place of residence is in Hamburg
• For companies: The registered office or place of business of the company or trader is Hamburg

• Book an appointment online.
• Bring all necessary documents with you.
• Your request will be processed on site.
• Documents and signs will be given to you.
• Your vehicle is registered.

Appointment booking
An appointment is required for vehicle registration.

• Visit our website to book an appointment (link below).
• Select the category: Admission
• Then select: Registration of a brand new vehicle (except motorhomes) or Registration of a brand new motorhome or Registration of a brand new vehicle and deregistration .
• Follow the steps to reserve an appointment.
• You will receive an email. Confirm your reserved appointment using the link in the email.
• You will receive an appointment confirmation. Bring this with you to your appointment.

If the holder and owner of the vehicle are not the same (as is the case with leased vehicles, for example), the LBV must be informed of who the vehicle is to be registered to.

• Motor vehicles must be registered for use on public roads
• The LBV issues the stamped registration documents and issues license plates
• Registration entitles the driver to participate in road traffic and to park the vehicle on public areas
