You must apply for recognition of a specialist or additional designation from the Hamburg State Veterinary Association after completing the required further training.

Do you want to work as a veterinarian in Hamburg and would you like to continue the advanced training qualification you acquired abroad for a specialization? You can apply for recognition of your advanced training qualification at the Hamburg Veterinary Association.

Proof of citizenship

• Your license to practice medicine or your permission according to Section 2 Paragraph 2 of the Federal Veterinary Code
• the qualifications you have acquired
• the certificate, if available, of the relevant professional experience you have acquired
• Evidence of the content of the further training in the form of the submission of the relevant further training regulations or in another suitable manner if the content of the further training and the duration of the further training to obtain the proof of further training emerge from it
• if applicable, other evidence of qualifications required to determine equivalence

You have successfully completed the relevant further training.
You have a license to practice as a veterinarian or a permit to temporarily practice the veterinary profession.

If you have completed further training in a training course that deviates from the further training regulations, you will receive recognition upon application if the further training and the knowledge acquired are equivalent.

You can complete non-equivalent further training with full or partial credit for the training periods completed so far in accordance with the provisions of the further training regulations. The state veterinary association decides on the credit.

Fee for granting the recognition: currently EUR 66.00 - 100.00

You apply for recognition to use the continuing education designation in writing. A form is not required.

• Attach all certificates issued during the further training and the evidence required for the respective further training course to your application for recognition.
• The State Veterinary Association will check the application and the evidence for completeness and, if necessary, ask you to submit further documents or information.
• The chamber decides within a reasonable period of time whether the certificates and evidence submitted with the application meet the requirements of the further training regulations and the content and scope of further training in the area or area chosen by the applicant as specified in the respective further training course.
• If this is the case, admission to the oral examination takes place before the chamber's examination board.
• Based on your statements in the oral examination, the examination board will decide whether you have acquired the required special and additional knowledge in the field or area you have chosen.
• The chairman of the examination committee informs the State Veterinary Association of the results of the examination in writing, enclosing the results protocol.
• If you pass the exam, the State Veterinary Association will issue you a certificate certifying your right to use the designation.

The processing time depends on the availability of complete evidence, the duration of the examination of the documents by the further training committee and the determination of the examination date and is approximately 3 - 6 months.

Always report your further training to the chamber before or when it begins. If you change the relevant chamber or move to Germany from abroad, you must also inform the chamber about your ongoing further training.
