As an impaired person (injured person or injured party), you will receive, upon application, medical treatment for health impairments that are recognized as the result of an injury or that have been caused by a recognized consequence of an injury.
Please note: The following information is based on the provisions of the Federal Social Security Act, which has since expired. Similar benefits are now provided under Book XIV of the Social Code (SGB XIV). We will be able to provide you with more detailed information on this shortly. Until then, please contact the office listed at the bottom of this page with any related concerns.
As a disabled person, you are entitled to medical treatment for recognized health conditions. If you are severely disabled, benefits are also provided for conditions unrelated to the care provided, if and to the extent that they are not covered by other means (e.g., through membership in statutory health insurance). Under the same conditions, family members, caregivers, and all surviving dependents can receive medical treatment.
The type and scope of benefits generally correspond to those of statutory health insurance.
The treatment includes
- outpatient medical and dental treatment,
- Supply of medicines and dressings,
- Provision of medical treatments including physiotherapy, exercise therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy as well as glasses and contact lenses
- Provision of dentures,
- Treatment in a hospital
- Treatment in a rehabilitation facility,
- home nursing,
- Provision of aids,
- Stress testing and occupational therapy,
- non-medical social pediatric services,
- Psychotherapy as medical and psychotherapeutic treatment and sociotherapy.
- Application (informal possible)
- Notification of recognition according to the social compensation law
- You submit your application together with the necessary documents.
- The responsible authority will examine your application and, if necessary, request any missing documents or information from you.
- The responsible authority will inform you of the decision on your application in writing.
The following benefits are provided directly by the responsible social security office and must be applied for there:
- dentures
- Tools
- Movement therapy
- Speech therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Stress testing
- Occupational therapy
- spa treatments,
- Replacement services,
- Physical exercise for the disabled,
- Flat rate for clothing and linen wear and tear
- War victims are entitled to medical treatment for recognized health disorders
- Family members, carers and survivors may also be entitled
