When a license plate number is allocated, a combination of letters and numbers is usually assigned over which there is no influence.

However, if a special combination of letters and numbers is desired, such a license plate can be applied for as an optional license plate within the limits of availability.

When selecting license plates, umlauts, combinations with the

- letter combinations HJ, KZ, NS, SA, SS

- number combinations 18 and 88 as well as

- Letter and number combinations AH/HH/FG 420/204

are not allowed.

License plate reservations with the above combinations, which may have been made in the past, may no longer be assigned with immediate effect.

A vanity plate can be reserved or registered online, in person, in writing or by telephone.

Apply online:

• Use the link under "Further information" - "Online service" - "Online vehicle registration - i-Kfz".
• You must then take note of the data protection information and click on "Continue".
• You will then be taken to a selection menu. Select the 3rd item "Reserve license plate / extend reservation" and click on "Next".
• In the next step, you can choose whether you want to reserve a new license plate or extend an existing license plate reservation.
• Now select whether you are applying as a private or commercial person.
• Then enter the required data.
• In the next step, you can select the vehicle and license plate type.

There is no legal claim to the allocation of a desired license plate.
