If you no longer have your ID card because it can no longer be found, has been lost or stolen, you must report this loss immediately (loss report).
The identity card must be applied for again.
The loss or misplacement is to be reported to the citizens' offices. Theft must be reported to the police.
If the electronic proof of identity has been activated, it must be blocked either at the citizens' registration offices or by calling the blocking hotline 0180-1-33 33 33 (3.9 cents/minute from a German landline, maximum 42 cents/minute from a mobile network - also available from abroad) or the blocking emergency number 116 116 (toll-free).
When blocking, the personal data and the blocking password must be provided.

- Important information about passport photos! From 01.05.2025, passport photos can only be processed digitally. Photos in paper form will then no longer be accepted.
You can have a photo taken by the photographer, who will send it to us online via a cloud. Alternatively, you can use chargeable terminals in the citizens' offices. The digital photo is available to us directly (from May 2025).

- The ID card can only be applied for in person, as a handwritten signature is required when applying.
- From 17.02.2025, the PIN letter will be given to you directly when you submit your application from birth.
- In principle, it is only possible to collect requested ID cards from the Bürgerbüro Mitte.
- A representative can be authorized to collect the card. To do this, the authorized representative must be able to identify themselves accordingly and bring a special power of attorney for collection (see above right under "Forms") as well as the identity card or passport of the person granting the power of attorney.
Dispatch of requested identity cards
- The requested document can be delivered by post to the sole or main residence under registration law in Germany. Delivery by the postal delivery service may only be made personally to the person making the application. Upon delivery, a second photo ID issued by a public authority that allows the identity of the applicant to be established without any doubt must be presented. Delivery can be made from the age of 16. Delivery costs 15 euros.
