You may only use a vehicle subject to registration on public roads if it has been registered by the responsible registration authority.

- Loss
- theft
- illegibility
If the registration certificate Part I (ZB I) has been stolen, you must report this to the police.

You have lost your registration certificate part I (ZB I), it has been stolen or is no longer legible.
- You must submit an application for the issue of a registration certificate Part I (ZB I).
- Either at the registration authority that issued the license plate number
- or at a registration authority at the location of the vehicle.
- This can be done either by the person to whom the vehicle is registered or by a representative with a written power of attorney.
- You can apply for the registration certificate part I (ZB I) in person on site or via the online service.
Online application:
- The online service guides you through the application step by step.
- You can submit the required documents digitally. You can find the online service under "Forms".
- You will receive the ZB I by post.
Apply in person on site:
- You need an appointment to apply for the registration certificate part I (ZB I) in person on site.
- You can arrange the appointment online or by telephone.
- Bring all the required documents with you to the appointment.
- The new registration certificate Part I (ZB I) will be issued immediately.
Please note:

- A new registration certificate Part I (ZB I) - formerly the vehicle registration document - and an old vehicle registration document - now registration certificate Part II (ZB II) - may not be issued at the same time.
- So if you still have an old vehicle registration certificate, a new registration certificate Part II (ZB II) must also be issued.
- The old vehicle registration certificates were issued until the end of 2004.
- The number of the new registration certificate Part II (ZB II) will then be entered in your new registration certificate Part I (ZB I).
Legal remedy: Objection.
If you have received a replacement document after losing a registration certificate Part I (ZB I) and find the lost registration certificate Part I (ZB I), you must return it to the responsible registration authority immediately.
