I would like to rearrange the order of my first names. My call name is in second place. I want the call name to be in front.
Since 01.11.2018, persons who use their name according to German law and have several first names can re-determine the order of these first names by declaration.
Foreign nationals whose name is based on German law due to their place of residence or domicile, or who have chosen German name law by legal choice, can also make this declaration. In these cases, we recommend that you inquire in advance at the consulate of your home country whether the change will be entered in your passport.
What documents do I need?
- Current certified copy of the birth register, if the register is not kept in the registry office where the declaration is made.
- If applicable, current certified copy of the marriage register, if the register is not kept in the registry office where the declaration is made.
- Valid identity card or passport
Cash and EC card payment are possible at the automatic pay station.
The declaration must be made in person at the registry office or at the notary's office.
Further notes
The declaration can be made in any registry office and will then be forwarded to the relevant registry office.
Declarations that are not made in the birth registry office are sent by the certifying registry office to the birth registry office. There the declaration becomes effective and a birth certificate or a name change certificate is issued. If there is no German birth registry office and a marriage is registered in Germany, the registry office that keeps the marriage register becomes responsible instead of the birth registry office. If there is neither a birth registry nor a marriage registry in Germany, the registry office of residence becomes responsible.
