The Measles Protection Act serves to protect the population from measles.

The measures taken to date to increase vaccination rates have not yet resulted in sufficient numbers of people in Germany being vaccinated against measles. There are still vaccination gaps, so that several hundred to a few thousand people in Germany continue to contract measles every year. However, the elimination of measles is possible when 95% of the population is protected against measles.

The law is intended to increase vaccination protection where measles transmission can occur very quickly if not enough people are protected against measles.
