For the transport of a corpse to a place outside of Bremen, an international passport for corpses is necessary under certain conditions.
You would like to transport a deceased person to a place outside Bremen? In order to be able to have the transport carried out, an international mortuary passport may be required. You can also apply for this through the funeral home responsible for the transport.
- Written informal request
- Certification of proper coffering and compliance with transport regulations
- according to the International Agreement for the Carriage of Corpses (IALB) by the funeral home.
- Death certificate with confidential section
- Death certificate from the registry office
- The clearance certificate from the public prosecutor's office required for the issuance of an international mortuary passport in the case of an unexplained cause of death or a deceased person who has not been identified with certainty has been obtained.
- The transport regulations according to the International Convention on the Transport of Corpses are complied with.
- Death certificate or deferral of certification.
The application can be made either by you as an individual or by the appointed funeral home at the health office of the place of death.

Only when all the necessary documents are available and all the requirements have been met can the public health office process the application for an international mortuary passport.
