Are you studying to become a teacher or have you completed a teacher training program and are interested in being hired for the preparatory service? Find out more here.
With the successful completion of your teaching degree, you can apply for the preparatory service in Bremen.
In Bremen, training is available for the following teaching professions:
- Teaching profession at elementary schools
- Teacher training at grammar schools/secondary schools
- Teacher training at vocational schools
- Teacher training for inclusive education/special education
After a successful application, the student is first admitted and then hired. As a rule, both are followed by an appointment as a civil servant on a revocable basis. The preparatory service lasts 18 months. The training takes place in a training school and a study seminar assigned to you.
Under certain conditions, it is also possible to complete the preparatory service part-time.
The preparatory service is considered to be completed when you pass the state examination for the respective teaching post.
The prerequisite for admission to the preparatory service for a teaching position at public schools is, in principle, proof of successfully completed teacher training studies (Master of Education or First State Examination).
After successfully completing the teacher training program (1st phase), you must complete a preparatory service (2nd phase) in order to obtain the qualification for a teaching position at schools in Bremen.
The Master's certificate or a certificate with the final overall grade can be submitted later in each case. Please note the current deadlines for this on the LIS homepage.
Information on the application procedure for the preparatory service can be found on the LIS website under "Further information".
After a successful application, you will be appointed as a civil servant on a revocable basis, provided you meet the formal requirements (citizenship/age limit 45 years at the time of recruitment). Alternatively, you will be hired as a trainee under public law.
Training takes place at the State Institute for Schools as well as at training schools that are also assigned.
The preparatory service is usually completed in 18 months and ends with the passing of the 2nd state examination for the teaching profession of your teacher training program.
