You can apply for a one-off extension of the building permit for up to two years if you have a valid building permit for your construction project.

If you have a valid building permit for your building project, you can apply for an extension of the building permit.

The competent lower building supervisory authority can extend the building permit once for up to 2 years if the legal requirements have not changed in the meantime and the application has been received by the competent lower building supervisory authority before the deadline expires.

The requirements for a one-off extension of two years are

• the existence of a valid building permit,
• compliance with the extension period of three years since the building permit was issued,
• the documents submitted in accordance with § 3 of the Bremen Building Submission Ordinance remain valid,
• the legal requirements have not changed in the meantime and
• the application has been received by the competent lower building supervisory authority before the expiry of the deadline.

Apply for the extension in writing (informally). Indicate which building permit your application for extension relates to. Submit the application to the responsible lower building supervisory authority.

The lower building supervisory authority will examine your application and involve those bodies whose participation or consultation is required for the decision on the building permit or without whose opinion the application cannot be assessed. You will then receive an extension of the building permit, provided the requirements for this are met.

The extension of the building permit is subject to a fee. You will receive a notification of fees. If necessary, the lower building supervisory authority will ask you to make an advance fee payment as soon as you submit your application.
