When transporting animals for less than 8 hours, the regulations on the protection of animals during transportation apply. If you transport animals over a distance of more than 65 kilometers, you must have a permit. In addition, all persons involved in the transportation of animals in your company must be in possession of a certificate of competence issued by the authorities. These requirements may also apply to the transportation of animals as part of an agricultural or part-time activity ("part-time farmers"). The authorization is valid for a maximum of 5 years from the date of issue; it does not apply to long journeys.

• A valid national permit in accordance with Section 3 of the Road Haulage Act (GüKG) or a Community license (EU license) in accordance with Regulation (EC) 1072/2009
• Copies of the driver's and supervisor's certificates of competence
• Certificate of good conduct (document type O)
• Extract from the central trade register

• The applicant company must be established in a Member State or, if it is an applicant company from a third country, it must have a representative in the Member State.

• The applicant company must have sufficient and appropriate personnel, i.e. personnel with certificates of competence in accordance with Article 17 (2) of the Regulation, as well as sufficient and appropriate equipment and procedures to carry out the transport operations and thus comply with the legal requirements of the relevant Regulation and also the best practice guidelines.

• The applicant or his representative must not have committed any serious infringements of Community or national animal welfare legislation for a period of 3 years prior to the application.

• The competent authority checks your details and evidence; an on-site appointment may be necessary

Once you have submitted all the documents in full, the responsible office will process them promptly.

The license must be obtained before starting work. The license is limited to a maximum of five years.
