If you would like to take the falconry examination, you must apply for admission to the falconry examination.

You need a falconry license to hunt with raptors or falcons. To obtain this, you must first pass a falconry examination. The application for admission to the falconry examination must be submitted to the competent hunting authority in your place of residence at least five weeks before the start of the examination. The application usually includes documents such as a police clearance certificate and proof of payment of the examination fee. The examination covers specific knowledge about the keeping, care and removal of birds of prey as well as raptor protection and hunting. Upon successful completion, you will receive the falconry hunting license, which allows you to hunt throughout Germany.

If you wish to apply for admission to the falconry examination, you can submit the application in writing or, if available, online. You can obtain the application form from the relevant office or, depending on the service, it can be downloaded from the Internet. It is also possible to use an online service. The procedure does not change:

• Register for the falconry examination at a hunting school recognized by Saarland.
• Complete the preparatory course with at least 25 of 30 teaching or training hours.
• Submit your application for admission to the falconry examination to the Saarland Hunting Association.
• The examiner will check your documents and decide on your admission.
• Take part in the falconry examination, which is carried out in various subject areas in front of two members of the examination board.
• After successful completion, you will receive the examination certificate.

• Appeal: You can lodge an appeal against the decision on admission or the examination result.
• Appeal to the administrative court: If the appeal is not decided in your favor, you have the option of filing an appeal with the administrative court.

• You need a falconry license to hunt with falcons.
• After attending a preparatory course, you can take the falconry examination.
• The exam covers, among other things, bird of prey studies and practical falconry skills.

The responsibility lies with the lower hunting authority.
