Anyone wishing to use the job title "geriatric nurse" requires a permit.

If you want to use the job title "geriatric nurse", you need a permit to do so.

• Written application,
• Certified copy of the state examination certificate,
• medical certificate,
• certificate of good conduct,
• birth or marriage certificate and
• a document showing the current name.

• You have passed the state examination for geriatric nurses following the legally prescribed training.
• You have not been guilty of any behavior that would make you unreliable to practice the profession.
• You are medically fit to practise the profession.
• You have the German language skills required to carry out your professional activities.

A fee of EUR 25.00 is payable for the issue of the certificate of authorization to use the professional title in accordance with the state ordinance on administrative fees (general fee schedule).

Comparable training qualifications obtained outside Germany can be recognized as equivalent in accordance with Section 2 (3) AltPflG.

If you have completed equivalent training outside Germany, you may (in accordance with EU law) be able to work temporarily and occasionally as a service provider in Germany without a permit in accordance with Section 1 AltPflG. You must notify the competent authority of this in advance.
